Yonie Skiba was born in Ethiopia. At 8-years-old she immigrated to Israel and today she lives in kibbutz Evron with her family.
She opened her business, Mavrhatey – Ethiopian Experience, in 2007 out of love for the Land of Israel and because she wanted to shed light and tell the story of Ethiopian Jews.
The word Mavrhatey means ‘her light’, and today Yonie is passing on her light and the Ethiopian community’s light to those who come visit. Mavrhatey offers an authentic experience for groups and families, including the traditional Ethiopian hospitality ceremony Buna, music, dance, visiting an Ethiopian house, tasting traditional food and a variety of workshops such as stories about the journey and absorption in Israel, cooking workshops and more.
Yonie Skiba left Ethiopia when she was 8 years old, and came to Israel. Mavrhatey – means “her light”, and passing on this light is Mavrhatey’s main goal.
