The Space Gallery at the JNF-USA Information Center was founded in 2017 by the Western Galilee Now Small Business Consortium, which has been responsible for operating the Information Center since its establishment in 2016. The gallery has become an integral part of the association’s work in the Western Galilee and is fertile ground for promoting the artistic, historical, geographical and cultural wealth of the Western Galilee. Visitors to the exhibitions are exposed to the colorful and multi-layered richness of local artists and craftsmen or local historical events. Until the end of July, the Space Gallery is displaying the exhibition “Ebb & Flow” – an exhibition of clay sculptures by the international sculptor Varda Yatom from Kibbutz Sasa.

A veteran and fascinating Akko artist, who deals with street art. You can find his works in his special gallery, which was originally an ancient well, which he renovated over many years, and in the alleys of the Old City. “The artist is a person who searches the depths of the imagination, in order to get away from reality and create a work of art from nothing. Artistic work gives birth to a small embryo, it grows and grows and the birth process continues, so I work for hours and days and when I finish my artistic work, my dialogue with the artistic result begins, then I feel like an artist. I search for and next to the artist among the colors, wood, iron, and other materials, and I search for everything new. We can create reality from imagination, when we admit that there is a whole world called ‘imagination’.”

Saleem Amer, born in Akko, is a master stonemason using traditional methods and has been involved in conservation projects in Caesarea, throughout the country, and in Old Akko in particular for many years, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority. He learned traditional crafts on his own, to the level of an artist, pouring soul into the stone and telling the story to future generations. Saleem shares his knowledge with visitors, conducting workshops by appointment that last about 90 minutes, in which you can experiment with stonemasonry. The studio serves as a place for inspiration in an atmosphere wrapped in art and a connection to history, suitable for a short break from the daily rush in Old Akko.

Copper art workshop of the artist Mino Rubin. The father of the family was a goldsmith in Libya. When they immigrated to Israel in 1950, he brought all the special tools, and Mino is the only one of his 9 siblings who followed in his father’s footsteps. He bought the copper art workshop, where he still works today, in 1962. In the 1970s, Mino operated a thriving workshop with employees. He sold copper works wholesale in Israel and even instructed students in schools. Today, he continues to engage in creation in his workshop.
