Moalem Restaurant is at the entrance to the Old City, a few steps away from the parking lot and the spot where market and city tours usually start. It’s a veteran local restaurant, open almost all hours of the day and well known to locals.
The restaurant specializes in fish and sea food but serves a large variety of meats, salads, homemade hummus and more. It’s a pleasant street restaurant, where you can sit around simple tables and enjoy watching the passersby, tourist groups from all over the world and the general hustle and bustle that is part of Akko’s charm. The restaurant serves food such as: shashlik, shawarma, grilled fish (of varying types based on what the local fishermen caught), falafel, salad platter, hummus and more.

At the entrance to the Old City lies the White Market with its arched ceiling, and as you enter it, a veteran shawarma place (30 years) awaits, with two types of meat – 1 veal and 1 turkey. Choose toppings from a large selection of salads and spreads. When you’re done, you’ll get a small glass of local Arab coffee to ease the meal.

A little nook worth visiting: a small and charming hummus shop at the end of the Central Market, opened by the father of the family and later the entire family joined in.
Aside from the hummus and Gold Ball falafels the place offers excellent cardamom seasoned turkey shawarma with lamb fat, fries and pickled lemon that is a must in every dish, freshly cut salad and a selection of other local salads.

An old family owned falafel shop at the entrance to the market, open since the 1950s. behind the counter the three family members are busy at work, making falafel at a fast pace so that even if the line is long, you’ll still get your falafel in a matter of minutes. A full portion has no less than 8 golden falafel balls that were pulled out of the boiling oil seconds ago, fresh toppings and excellent tahini.

The falafel recipe was passed down from father to son in 1982. The stall initially stood in Farhi Square and in 2009 moved to its current location on Salah-a-Din Street. Sweet little place, never short of hot and savory falafel balls with pickles and fresh vegetables, all for 10 ILS.
